Battlefield 2

Battlefield 2 (BF2) was released in June 2005, and is an FPS, a First Person Shooter game, developed by a Swedish developer Digital Illusions CE (DICE) and published by Electronics Arts for Microsoft Windows only. A console branded version also exists for the Xbox, Xbox 360 and PS2, named Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. Although they both share the same name and setting, they differ considerably in execution, content, and gameplay. BF2 is the third instalment in the Battlefield Series.

The story is set in the early 21st century during a fictional world war between various power blocks: China, the European Union, the fictional Middle Eastern Coalition (MEC), Russia (playable only in the Special Forces expansion) and the United States. In-game, the European Union and the United States fight China and the MEC. It is known that in the game's story, the EU and the US are allies and the EU has negotiated a peace deal with Russia but it is unknown if China and the MEC are allies.BF2 may seem like an upgrade to its predecessor Battlefield 1942 but that is only a surface comparison.BF2 features only 1 game mode, the conquest mode. The in-game graphics are top notch, and sound quality superb.

Minimum system requirements:

Windows XP, 1.7 GHz AMD Athlon XP, Sempron, Intel Pentium 4 or Celeron D CPU, 512 MB RAM, 2.3 GB hard disk space, sound card, DirectX compatible 128 MB graphics card, Radeon 8500 or GeForce FX 5700. The ESRB rating is T (Teen - Violence). The MSRP is $29.95. So what is it that made the BF2 attain so much popularity among gamers? A hands-on with the game will give us a better idea.

BF2 is essentially a multiplayer game played over the LAN or internet, but it also supports single player gameplay with 3 difficulty levels. The conquest mode is what sets BF2 apart from its predecessors and takes it to a whole new dimension. You get to choose which faction you will play at the start .The basic aim of BF2 is to reduce the opposite teams tickets, i.e. its ability to reinforce themselves on the map/battlefield. The winner is one who either captures all the capture points (certain points on the map, also double up as spawning points) or if the opposing teams ticket is reduced to 0. A very straightforward formula, but very effective in building up an enthralling and engaging fighting experience.

The single most outstanding feature of this game is its support for teamwork, enhancing coordination and making you feel a part of a real battle group. The new VoIP,(Voice over IP), gives you the chance for real time voice communication with your squad members. The voie communications system supported by BF2 is simply too good; it filters the chatter according to your squad, and you hear chatter from only your squad commander and teammates; the squad commander can communicate with other commanders. The game also includes a player recognition feature, which brings up the players history, and the more you play, the more player points you rake up, hence more respectability in the game.

So, BF2 is packed with some amazing teamwork elements which greatly enhance the user experience. Add to that, cutting edge graphics and sound systems and the thrill of multiplayer gameplay, and you have a winner in the form of BF2.
