Battlefield Heroes
Battlefield Heroes is a cartoon style action video game developed by Electronic Arts (EA), DICE & Easy Studios. The game is played from 3rd person perspective. The game was released on June 25th, 2009. This is the first video game to be released by EA under a “play for free” model with the intention of generating revenue from advertising & micropayments. Micropayments can be made by the players to customize their avatars & buy stronger weapons.
System Requirements:
- OS: Windows XP or Windows Vista
- CPU: 1.0 GHz
- RAM: 512 Mb on Windows XP /1 GB on Windows Vista
- Video Card: 64 Mb DirectX compliant video cards with pixel shader 2.0 support
- HDD: 1 GB of free space is required
- 256kbit Cable/DSL Internet connection
The game itself is an upgraded conquest mode where each team has 50 lives & one flag at the start of the round. The game also features a built in matchmaking system to keep players of the same skill level together to provide for a fairer fight. The game has 30 levels. The two fighting armies are called National Army (The Germans) & Royal Army (The Brits). The National Army has a red base colour flag & the Royal army has a blue base colour flag. The spawn time here is 5 seconds only compared to the 15 seconds of previous Battlefield games. Sometimes the player is Para dropped behind enemy lines.
The game also features a new mode called “Conquest V2”. The objective of this mode is to take hold of a V2 rocket for 5 minutes. Battlefield Heroes also features a class system. But the class system here has been reduced to three: the soldier (shotgun, TNT, has self heal ability, having mid speed, mid health & mid ranged weapons), the Gunner (heavy weapon, machine gun, shotgun, TNT, self heal ability, high health & slow) & a commando (sneaky fighter, cunning, long ranged rifle, knife, TNT, low health, high speed).
The vehicles of this game have been modeled on the vehicles of WWII. The light tanks are based on M4 Sherman & the Panzer tanks. Wheeled vehicles are modeled on Kubelwagen & Willy’s Jeep. The aircrafts are based on Messerschmitt Bf 109 & Supermarine Spitfire. Players get Valor points on the successful completion of a mission. Players can also purchase “Battlefunds” from the main website in order to buy stronger weapons, clothes, valor point boosts, experience, bandages etc.
Battlefield Heroes got somewhat of a mixed review. IGN gave it 8.0 out of 10 rating points calling it “fun, frantic & free but unfortunately nor flawless”.
